1.6 Complete learning tasks on time and to the standard required

Strategy: I need to finish the front sheets for each assignment started so I won’t get the deadline date wrong once I have done it.

I don’t want to rely on teacher so I would pick up half an hour to proofread or check my grammar too by say it out loud.

I can reduce the need to work by adding or paste some repeats to make up some work counts and spaces which related.

Strategy – Get help from teacher and students for unclear.

1.4 Set goals to manage commitments in work and personal life

Smart Goal Setting

I should always try my best on the work set by doing them properly and detailed and hand them on time so that I get good feedback in a better standard as well so each time I do work I will give the work a good layout and introduction on the work so I don’t forget the work. I would also have opportunity of grammar checked for my work to reduce my work from end of year which also improves my grammar because I get to see the problems of grammar in my work.

I also need to use good wordings when I put it in my own words or reword the meanings I need to use some more advanced English or adjectives to make more sense.

Extended project

I should do things a little faster so I should take more photos in work so that I don’t forget the steps. So I hope I can investigate more of making so I don’t get the making wrong. I should use more time to do the log book then other practise so I get more information recorded and photos recorded too because they count my points so I will spend half an hour to 1 hour on log book so I won’t do the forget everything and catch up the log book on the last day.

When comes to scenarios I need to read several times to remember precisely and understand it more if I don’t understand then I should ask  so I could improvise what I am saying or even rewrite it.

When comes to explain or analyse I would need to find out the meaning of the words so that I understand how to actually do it.

Smart targets

Use the following guidance when create your targets – your advisor can help you;

Keep your targets SMART;

Specific

“I will do better” is very vague – if it was that easy then we would all be getting top grades. Write down what you need to do to reach your goal. “I will practice my crosses from the right side” is better than “I will get on the school team”

Measurable

How do you know you are doing better? “I will work on my improving my vocabulary this year” is better because you can review the results of your vocab tests and measure your successes.

Attainable

We would all love to be able to score top marks in all subjects but it is unlikely to ever happen. Set yourself the goal of learning 5 new words a week in Chinese, rather than learning the whole dictionary. Remember that you may also want to play sport, see friends and watch a movie at some point…..

Relevant

Make sure that your goals will improve your school life. While you might want to get better grades setting the goal “I will play Halo once an evening for 2 hours” is unlikely to help you achieve your target.

Time-based

How often are you going to do something to help? How long are you going to do it for? When will you re-assess your successes?

Further notes;

Make sure that you focus on what you are going to do rather than achieve;

“I will improve my performance by focusing on my verbs” is better than “I want to get a 6 in Chinese”

Be positive – saying what you are going to do is best. “I will contribute effectively in group work” is better than “I won’t talk in lessons”

Now that you know you’re learning strengths and areas for improvement, you can begin to think about the targets that you can set yourself by cutting 10 minutes.

A target is something that you can work with your teacher to achieve to improve your performance in an area of school life, Think about the following things;

l   It does not have to be academic – it could be a target to improve your involvement in CAS, your relationships with your classmates

l   It must be something that matters to you – otherwise you won’t care about achieving it

l   It must be a SMART target – these are outlined on the following blogs

Reflections about how you spend your time each day.

Trends:

I can see the sport times & games could catch up my working times if I don’t use my free periods effectively or don’t do work the time I suppose to do.

Anomalies:

Areas which could be improved upon

I could gym with friends instead of playing games that’s useless for life even it help stress but I think socializing with friends also do help. I only play games on Saturday and Sunday before playing basketball so it won’t disturb my thinking from work.

Practical and focused goals for managing your learning (Smart)

I need to effectively use the free periods which could leave out about 4 hours a week. When there is a hand in assignment day on 8:10 I could just go straight to school and eat so I won’t be late handing in the work because I will have about 15 minutes early because I still need to leave at 7:20 due to the minibus only come on that time for KGV but in Sha Tin we want to leave at 6:50 if too early there might not be any minibus going due to they will not earn money.

I also need to use my time in tutor times effectively because most of them have nothing to do to BTEC especially Sha Tin due to not much we need to watch or do.

For Sha Tin college afternoon break I play basketball and king george v school lunch I am thinking of work out, but due to the short time I use to have lunch. Do work during early arrival too. I can cut down the lunch time watching times and eat faster so I have time to gym. In dinner time I should try to eat my fruits faster. I should actually sleep early without watching anything when my head felt tired or I won’t be able to do well on second day to save 10 minutes each day in a total of 1 hour 10 minutes. Cut gaming from 3 hours to 30 minutes or none because I feel the success too watching other stuff, try new games each time don’t need to be addicted to one game and more time to do work. I also want to cut the entertainment to 1 hour too because I got to entertain playing badminton with the club too.

According to cutting the games I have about 1 more hours on Saturday and Sunday.

According to cutting my watching time and eating fruits in dinner I cut down 30 minutes.

According to cutting time to watch before sleep I want to increase the time to sleep to 8 hours 30 minutes. Also usually on Saturday & Sunday I watch a bit television before sleep even it’s very late already so I should not watch any television and go straight to sleep

1.3 Plan responses to risks to learning not being completed on time

What excuses do you make to not having completed something?

1.    Unsure – Ask for help

2.    Find new ideas of presenting my information – having to waste a lot of time on the layout

3.    Do it in a wrong way – example presenting with pictures without any script which might make me confuse and speaking not clear enough

4.    Can’t be bothering – example presenting a PowerPoint without practicing

5.    Printing issues

6.    Organization (Forgot to do)

7.    Left my work at home

8.    Arrive late to school when handing the work in morning

9.    Time management – etc. Hobbies – such as badminton, basketball, work out, watching animation, tv shows and movies, hang out with friends, sleep

10. Procrastination – surfing the internet, listen to music, playing games

How often do you need to make these excuses?

About 1 time in each unit due to there is still work outstanding from last unit

What risks you are taking by not completing your assignments on time and to the expected BTEC standards?

No feedback for the assignment

Will not be checked until end of year

No extension of second deadline

Detention if frequently not handing work on time

Eventually there will be a contract with the school if work is not handing in or always late to school.

Smart targets to eliminate the risk

First goal was to develop a can do attitude to my work so I want to ask when I am not clear about and reflect on what I did wrong and do it better by finding solutions. Second goal I am trying to attempt to answer two questions in every lesson so far I answered one for Ms. Czirok about the calendar and Ms. Ogilvie three questions such as the rural to urban areas and the treat and discriminate for the difficulties for illegal workers, and also the opportunities and money on migrant worker doesn’t mean equally poverty. I answer questions so it helps to increase my understanding because even I answer wrong I made sure I am clear. Third goal is to begin my task when it was set to make sure I do it correctly where there is chance asking teacher and to use my time efficiently.

1.2 Set SMART learning goals to enable the learner to be completed on time and to a high standard

The Smart Goal is used to set aim and objectives for your course work, personal development or project management

SMARTER GOALS

Setting SMARTER Goals in 7 Easy Steps

Name

Jimmy Ip

Goal

I want to get from my work experience/work placement is to get taught from the experience  to improve my confidence, to experience the real world of work and the ability to interact with people

I want to achieve from my school work – BTEC is to experience more in depth of one subject then having multiple subjects to concentrate as I think that I could get out more from one subject and also it helped me develop more vocational skills of that subject which develop my confidence

I want to get from Christmas is to improve my badminton skills and also I want to improve my Chinese typing and English skills with the help of internet subscription source

Date

24/11/2011

Reason this goal is important to me

Work experience is important which might has an overlap with BTEC which help me enhance my knowledge of working that working is not scary.

BTEC Work is important because I need to get something out of my learning so I need to meet all deadlines as fast as possible without creating procrastination.

For Christmas I should not waste my time, as I should make use the time in improving my communication skills and my grammar skills in Chinese.

Step

Mnemonic

Description

1

Specific

Exactly what is it you want to achieve in your business or personal life? Good goal statements explain: what, why, who, where and when. If your goal statement is vague, you will find it hard to achieve because it will be hard to define success.

I will need to practise my communication skills or in mirror practise 2 hours every week, when I talk more in the some practical sessions and good improvisation by the end of two year BTEC Course

By the end of my work experience week I should able to have knowledge of sports related working environment when it is working with new people which is working with unknown, anonymous people.

2

Measurable

You must be able to track progress and measure the result of your goal. Good goal statements answer the question: how much or how many. How will I know when I achieve my goal?

I will be finding myself more confortable in the two days after to get use to the environment. I will target myself able to improvise at least 2 complete sentences.

3

Agreed

Your goal must be relevant to and agreed with all parties; examples include your line manager, employees and customers.

I want to gain confidence to be able to gaining a ability to meeting new friends and develop speech scripts

4

Realistic

The goal should be stretching, but realistic and relevant to you and your company. Ensure the actions you need to take to achieve your goal are things you can do and control. Is this goal achievable?

My goals are achievable as I would feel the much confidents and to reduce the amount of um when talking so I need to be loud enough and fluent with my language, as I need to reduce ums from my current average 3 ums to 1 ums.

5

Time-Bound

Goals must have a deadline. A good goal statement will answer the question: When will I achieve my goal? Without deadlines, it’s easy to put goals off and leave them to die. As well as a deadline, it’s a good idea to set some short-term milestones along the way to help you measure progress.

I will be achieving them at the end of the courses or half of the sessions.

6

Ethical

Goals must sit comfortably within your moral compass. Most people resist acting unethically. Set goals that meet a high ethical standard.

Ethical would be I should prepare more when I even went to apply to prevent unaware cases that may give me a good confidence.

7

Resourced

You will need to commit enough resource to achieve your goal. This may be time, money, information sources or support from friends and colleagues. You may need to make sacrifices to achieve your goal.

I have resources as I am now I already applying for a work experience and doing my BTEC courses.
